Meghalaya BJP minister supports Mizoram action along inter-state boundary

Shillong, Jul 30 (UNI) Newly inducted Cabinet Minister and BJP legislator in Meghalaya, Sanbor Shullai has come out in support of the Mizoram government and said its actions should be emulated by other North-Eastern states, including Meghalaya too, which has a boundary dispute with the neighbouring state.

“For example you have seen the guts of the people of Mizoram, they love their identity it really proves public and police together they protect their people,” Shullai told reporters here on Friday.

“The MP from Mizoram after coming out from parliament stated that this time we have killed only five, next time if they come, they will kill them all – this spirit should be with us, public and police if the people of Assam keep on harassing our people in the border area, time is ripe not only talk on the table, take tea, it ends there only. We have to react, we have to act at the spot only,” the BJP legislator asserted.

Asked if he was advocating violence, Shullai said, “If the enemies come to your house, attack you and your wife and children, you also have to attack in self defense, the same thing it should be done in our borders.”

“I am not supporting violence. This is an example that we should have the spirit to protect our people we have to utilise our force – the police should go in the front to talk with the Assam police,” the BJP minister iterated.

“Like what we have seen from time to time the police are behind, the civilians are in the front. The higher ups should give order that police should be in the front to protect and that they should not cross the line of control,” he said.

Shullai, however, said the best solution to resolve the long-pending boundary dispute with Assam is to sit across the table.

“Both the leaders (Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and his Assam counterpart Sanbor Shullai) for this long pending issue we have to sit again and again. I support that they maintain status quo,” the BJP minister said.

He also informed that he would take up the inter-state boundary issue and ILP, the inclusion of Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule with the Centre.

“You will see many political parties have given public commitment in their own manifestos that if they come to power they will solve – but it’s almost more than 50 years, no party can solve it till now,” he said.

“So we have to do a postmortem what is the problem here. So I along with the MDA government, with Chief Minister we have to work together to protect our people,” Shullai underscored.
