Ants found in the mouth of the patient
VADODARA: A video of ants crawling in the mouth of a woman admitted in the Covid ICU of the SSG Hospital (SSGH) has gone viral.
The video was recorded by the husband of the woman when he had gone to see her on Thursday morning.
The 47-year-old woman is a resident of Jambusar in Bharuch district and has multiple health complications. She tested positive for Covid-19 when brought for treatment to SSGH and was admitted to the Covid ward. When her husband went to visit her he was recording a video of his conversation with the patient. It was at this time that he noticed ants in her mouth and recorded the video.
In another video, her husband is seen interacting with the staff present in the ICU. While the person who her husband said is a nurse expressed sympathy with him, she also said that since SSGH was not a private hospital they should have made some adjustments there.
The staffer even told the husband that taking care of the patient was not merely their responsibility, but also that of the relatives. This despite the fact that relatives are not allowed inside Covid wards.
The man said that his wife was rushed to Bharuch from Jambusar for treatment after the paralytic attack. “We brought her to Vadodara for better treatment on July 11. She was found Covid positive here and admitted in the Covid ward,” he said.
He said that enough care of patients was not being taken in the ward. “I used to go to the ward once a day. I will not be able to do so now as I will not be allowed inside anymore,” he said. SSGH in-charge superintendent Dr R G Aiyer said that the staffers who were responsible for the incident had been identified. “We have sought an explanation from them and will inquire into the matter,” he said.
