Coronavirus updates: India reports 44,230 new cases and 555 deaths in 24 hours

NEW DELHI: With 44,230 new cases of Covid-19 having been reported in India in the last 24 hours, the cases graph has seen a marginal rise from 43,509 the previous day.

India's total Covid cases now stand at 3,15,72,344 and the death toll has risen to 4,23,217 with 555 new deaths reported in 24 hours, the bulletin released by the Union health ministry on Friday stated.

The recovery rate was recorded at 97.38 per cent. At 2.43 per cent, the daily positivity rate remained below 5 per cent, according to ministry data.

India's active caseload currently stands at 4,05,155 with a rise of 1,315 such cases in a span of 24 hours. Active cases at present constitute 1.28 per cent of the total cases of Covid.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has increased to 3,07,43,972 with 42,360 recoveries registered in 24 hours.

As many as 18,16,277 tests for Covid detection were conducted on Thursday, taking the total number of tests done so far in the country to 46,46,50,723.
The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 2.43 per cent, according to the health ministry.

Not reduced genome sequencing capacity, says govt
Genome sequencing capacity has not been reduced in the country, and since its inception, the INSACOG has sequenced 58,240 SARS-CoV-2 genomes, the Parliament was informed.
Out of these, 46,124 samples have been analysed, assigned pangolin lineage classification and submitted to the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) for public health correlation, the Lok Sabha was informed through a written reply.
Vaccine doses administered
India has so far administered 45,60,33,754 vaccine doses under the nationwide vaccination drive, the Union ministry said, adding that 51,83,180 doses were administered in the last 24 hours.
Maharashtra tops the state list for most number of people fully vaccinated, while UP has administered the most number of doses.
Andhra Pradesh extends night curfew
"After a thorough review of the Covid-19 situation and keeping in view of the number of Covid positive cases, Government hereby extend the curfew upto 14.08.2021from 10.00 PM to 6.00 AM in the State," the govt order read.
Chennai among 20 Tamil Nadu districts seeing spike
Fresh Covid-19 cases in TN rose to 1,859 on Thursday compared to 1,756 on Wednesday with at least 20 districts including Chennai, Coimbatore and Erode reporting a spike in new cases. Coimbatore continues to top the table reporting 188 cases on Thursday compared to 179 on Wednesday. Chennai followed Coimbatore with 181 new cases.
At 75.9%, Bihar has 3rd highest seroprevalence in India
Bihar has the third highest sero-positivity or the presence of antibodies in India. These are the findings of the sero-survey conducted by the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) from June 14 to July 6 across 70 districts of the country. The next sero-survey would be carried out in 12 districts and the results submitted in 20 days.
Altogether 46 new Covid-19 cases were registered in Bihar on Thursday. Of these, six were from Patna and five from Bhagalpur. While 14 districts did not report any new case, 14 others witnessed only one case each. With this, the state’s Covid tally has reached 7,24,719.
Over 3.8 lakh people without photo ID documents vaccinated through Co-WIN: Govt
As many as 3.83 lakh people without any photo ID documents have been vaccinated through Co-WIN till July 26, MoS health Bharati Pravin Pawar said on Friday. All beneficiaries who have received vaccines in India are registered on the Co-WIN portal, she said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha. The Centre has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to facilitate vaccination of eligible beneficiaries who do not possess the prescribed photo ID documents.
CII to work with Serum Institute to expand vaccination in small towns, rural areas
Industry chamber CII on Friday said it has entered into an agreement with Serum Institute of India (SII) to accelerate COVID vaccination in small towns and rural areas. The chamber said the partnership with Serum Institute will help catalyze industry participation to reach out to communities at large. As part of the pan-India vaccine demand aggregation exercise, CII undertook a survey with response from over 3,000 companies in 196 cities.
"This identified a requirement of over 7 million single dose vaccines. As of July 23, 2021, a total of 34,75,301 (3.4 million) single doses have been administered through 430 camps held across the country by the CII and the CII Foundation," a CII statement said.
