SHIMLA: Following threats by US-based Khalistani activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, Himachal Pradesh police has enhanced the security categorisation of chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, BJP national president J P Nadda and Union minister Anurag Thakur.
Pannu, who claims to be the general counsel for Sikh For Justice, said that he would not allow the chief minister Jai Ram Thakur to hoist the tricolour on Independence Day.
The threat made its way to the administration via an audio recording which was received by many journalists Friday morning.
The recording came from different numbers in which a message was given to Himachal government that on August 15, SFJ will not allow Jai Ram Thakur to hoist Indian tricolour.
The organisation, which calls for the "liberation" of Punjab, in the message further said once they liberate Punjab they will make sure that they take over the areas in Himachal Pradesh areas which used to be part of Punjab.
The message asks farmers and pro-Khalisatni Sikhs to come out and bring their tractors to stop Jai Ram Thakur from hoisting tricolour.
Reacting to this, CM Jai Ram Thakur said that he will unfurl the tricolour whenever and wherever he will get the chance to do so.
He said that he will look into the matter and will discuss the issue with the security agencies. He said that he does not bother much about such messages.
Himachal Pradesh DGP Sanjay Kundu said that police is taking all required steps in the matter and has shared the information through appropriate channels with Centre and state. He said that heads of intelligence agencies based in Shimla have been informed. He said that strict screening of vehicles at the border entry points of state is being ensured.
He said that Cyber Cell of Himachal Pradesh is also looking into the matter.
