Mamata Banerjee says doors open for BJP friendly BJD, YSRCP

After holding meeting with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee indicated that the doors were also open for the BJP friendly parties like the Bijju Janata Dal (BJD) and Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), which have often voted with the government in Parliament, when it comes to take on the BJP in the 2024 general elections.

Banerjee expressed optimism that more regional parties will take a stand in the coming days. Asked if she would also reach out to the parties close to the BJP, Banerjee replied that she has good relations with Naveen Patnaik, Jagan Mohan Reddy and MK Stalin (DMK) etc.

Stressing on importance of regional parties in future Opposition, Banerjee said every regional party is strong and equally important for the future Opposition. If the regional parties are together, they will be a force. If there is sincerity, there will be solidarity and there will not be any division of votes, Banerjee said.

Asking about Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Banejee said he is with the BJP right now, if he leaves, then will see. Speaking about her role for 2024, Banerjee said things will emerge from the talks. There have been some discussions and there will be more concrete discussions once the Monsoon Session of Parliament gets over, Banerjee said.

With an aim to form anti-BJP coalition ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday in Delhi.The meeting was also attended by the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi.

The meeting between the two lasted for more than half an hour and when Banerjee came out, both mother and son bid her farewell, indicating hope for the Opposition for 2024.

On assumptions about her becoming the face of the alliance, She had said that any Opposition leaders can lead the group for the 2024 elections and she would not impose her opinions and thoughts.

Calling her a worker, Banerjee said that her motto is to first unite the opposition and then look for a credible face approved by all. She had also stressed on the need to take along the Congress when it comes to the challenge the BJP.

On Thursday, Banerjee will meet DMK’s Kanimozhi and Bollywood veterans Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi.
