Deepika had no trouble when she took on Bhutan’s Karma, registering a convincing 6-0 win to progress through to the round of 32. Despite the win, her scores of 26, 26 and 27 points were not convincing enough. That slow start came back to haunt her in her clash against Fernandez, who took an early lead by scoring 26, as Deepika managed only 25. However, the Indian ace bounced back with successive 10s to take the second set 28-25.

Deepika continued her momentum and took the third set with a 27-25 score, hitting yet another 10. She could not seal in the win in the next set as a poor score of 6 allowed the 18-year-old American to crawl back, and level the scores 4-4 with a 25-24 win. Luckily for the Indian, Fernandez couldn’t force a tie-break, and managed nine in her final arrow, handing Deepika a 6-4 win.
Individual event rules
As per essentiallysports.com, the athletes will compete in 5 sets in which each player will get 3 arrows per round. For each set winner gets 2 points, and in case of a tie 1-1 point for each player. The first archer to earn 6 points wins.
