- India opened their campaign with a 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands, before going down 2-0 to Germany and 4-1 to Great Britain.
- With no points on the board and a largely inferior goal difference, India will need massive wins in their remaining contests against Ireland and South Africa.
Sjoerd Marijne, the chief coach of the Indian women’s hockey team, was livid with the loss to Great Britain and minced no words when quizzed for his thoughts. He said, “This was our worst match. We always try to play for a six (out of 10) for each individual, and I don’t think each individual today played for a six. Bad decisions, bad choices and I’m pretty disappointed by this.”
