Phuket virus case increase risks reopening of borders

Published on : Thursday, July 29, 2021

Eruption in corona virus cases in Phuket, Thailand’s first tourism hotspot to relinquish quarantine for vaccinated foreign visitors is causing to foil the experiment and is acting as a model for other tourism-dependent nations regarding reopening borders.

The resort island of Phuket reported 125 new Covid-19 cases during the week ending July 27, which is higher than the government-set level of 90 weekly cases. This means that it might bring in a temporary suspension of the program.

Local authorities have closed public schools and shopping malls, banning gatherings of more than 100 people from Tuesday to stop the virus from spreading further.
