Toddler dies, 7 hospitalised after consuming polluted water from abandoned borewell in Palghar

Palghar, Jul 28 (UNI) A four-year-old boy died and seven others took ill after consuming polluted water from an abandoned borewell in Kondlegaon of Jambulpada in Wada taluka of the district.
The affected had consumed water from the abandoned borewell and the toddler took ill. He was first taken to the local primary health centre for treatment but he succumbed while being taken to the rural hospital on Monday, the health officials said.
The boy died due to diarrhea while the others took ill, they said.
The village had been reporting these cases since last four days, it was stated.
Immediately upon coming to know about the incident, district DHO Dr Dayanand Suryavanshi rushed to the village and carried out an inspection.
He said that preliminary reports indicate that the consumption of polluted water led to the sickness.
He had directed the authorities to disinfect all the borewells and surrounding areas and water sources.
He warned that those officials and staff found responsible for negligence leading to health issues of villagers would face action.
