Former Cincinnati Bearcats standout Jordan Thompson starred in Team USA's sweep Tuesday of defending gold medalist China, and earned praise from NBC broadcasters Paul Sunderland and Kevin Barnett in doing so.

The 29-27, 25-22, 25-21 win in pool play left the Americans atop Pool B.

USA opposite hitter Jordan Thompson (12) prepares to serve the ball in a women's Pool B match against China during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Summer Games at Ariake Arena on July 27. The United States defeated China, 29-27, 25-22, 25-21.

"(China) cannot stop Jordan Thompson. They have no answer for her," Barnett said during the broadcast. "And now I feel like they've gotten to where they're chasing her. And you're not gonna be successful when you're chasing somebody. You have to come up with a plan and execute that plan and then change the plan if it's not working. You can't constantly be chasing someone and changing on the fly. (Chinese head coach) Lang Ping has got to instruct her blockers and her defenders where to be and how to deal with Thompson. She's doing everything now - now she's throwing out aces."

"Thompson has 21 of the USA's 42 kills. And almost hitting .500 against the defending Olympic champions," Sunderland added.

"There better be some (No.) 12 jerseys flying out of the USA Volleyball store right now," Barnett continued. "And they better be in that store! I'm gonna go check!"
