Laura Ingraham Mocks Police Testimony on January 6 With 'Best Performance' Awards
Fox News personality Laura Ingraham appeared to mock police officers who testified before the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot on Tuesday.
Ingraham, host of the network's The Ingraham Angle, gave those present at Tuesday's hearing mock awards for their "performances," including the police officers who were present at the riot.
She said there was "a transparent attempt by Democrats to drag this all out ahead of 2022" because "they know they're gonna lose big and they're trying not to but they're casting their political opponents as the enemies of the state."
"The theatrics were intended to produce an emotional reaction, logic and facts be damned," Ingraham said.
"It is with that knowledge that we will unveil the Angle Awards for today's best performances," she went on.
"First, for best use of tears and dramatic pauses in a leading role, we have a tie, and it's between Congressmen [Adam] Kinzinger and [Adam] Schiff."
Ingraham then showed footage of Kinzinger, a Republican, and Schiff, a Democrat, making emotional remarks at the hearings before moving on to give more "awards" to three of the police officers who testified.
"God save us from these third-rate theatrics," Ingraham said. "Now the award for best use of an exaggeration in a supporting role, the winner is [Capitol Police Sergeant] Aquilino Gonell who thinks the pen is literally mightier than the sword."
She then showed part of Gonell's testimony where he was discussing the fact that rioters had weapons and mentioned a pen as he said that the rioters' intention was to hurt police officers.
"The award for blatant use of partisan politics when facts fail—the Angle Award goes to Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn," Ingraham went on, showing Dunn's testimony where he said he had told rioters he voted for President Joe Biden.
"He later used all his art to accuse [former President Donald] Trump of being a hitman," Ingraham said and showed viewers remarks where Dunn said a "hitman" had sent the rioters and should be held accountable.
Ingraham sarcastically said "but it's not about politics at all" before handing out her final award.
"And for best performance in an action role, the winner is [Metropolitan Police Officer] Michael Fanone," she said.
She then showed a brief clip of Fanone making impassioned remarks and banging his hand down on the desk in front of him.
In the clip, Fanone said: "Too many are now telling me that hell doesn't exist or that hell actually wasn't that bad. The indifference shown to my colleagues is disgraceful."
Newsweek has asked U.S. Capitol Police and D.C. Metropolitan Police for comment.
