Gurgaon: Five members of two different vehicle lifter gangs were arrested by the crime branch of Sector 17 on Monday. They have been identified as Mohit (37), Sachin (21) Gaurav (21) of one gang and Wasim (19) and Atul (21) from the other gang.
Mohit, Sachin and Gaurav were nabbed from IFFCO Chowk, while the other two were arrested from Jharsa. According to the police, both the gangs have been involved in more than a dozen cases of vehicle theft in the city. Between them, they have stolen 12 motorcycles, six scooties and one auto rickshaw, an officer said. “They would steal the vehicles and then sell them at the second-hand market,” said ACP (crime) Prit Pal Singh.
After interrogation, the members of the first gang revealed that their main leader is Mohit, who has been arrested and sent to jail several times in the past for theft and other crimes. His gang has been stealing vehicles since 2018. Their most recent case was registered in Sector 10 police station for theft earlier this year.
The second gang stole auto-rickshaws and used it to ferry passengers in the Sadar area. Police recovered one auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles from them.
