under the ever-increasing prices of petrol and diesel.

Welcoming Torrent Gas to Tamil Nadu, Chief Minister M K Stalin

said access to Compressed Natural Gas, which is a cheaper and

cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel, has been a long felt

need of the people of the State.

consumers to adopt it, thereby having a positive impact on the

environment.

The domestic, commercial and industrial use of Natural Gas will

spur further industrial development in the State.”

He also promised that the State government will take steps to

facilitate faster roll out of the CGD infrastructure in the State.

The target is to set up 50 CNG stations by September this year

and 100 by June next year, he added.

The company has planned an investment of about Rs.5,000 crore

in the State over the next five years for creation of CGD (city gas

distribution) infrastructure including laying steel and PE pipelines

to provide piped natural gas to domestic, industrial and commercial

customers and setting up CNG stations,” Mr Mehta said.

He said the company was planning to add 80,000 domestic CNG

connections in Chennai city and came out with an aggressive pricing

policy of Rs.51.35 per kg for CNG, in Chennai and Tiruvallur, which

is the second lowest price in the country after the NCR region.

At this price, adoption of CNG as a fuel will help customers in Chennai

save up to 66 per cent vis-a-vis petrol, 61 per cent vis-à-vis diesel and

42 per cent vis-à-vis auto LPG.
