Ghaziabad: A 38-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife nine years ago, the Indirapuram police said on Monday. Monoranjan alias Manoj Tripathi had shot his wife dead in September 2012, they said. He has been living in Odisha as a priest.
Before the crime, Manoj who hails from Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur, used to be a photographer in Indirapuram. SP City-2 (THA) Gyanendra Singh said in 2007 Manoj had a love marriage with Geeta and they moved to Ghaziabad from Odisha.
In 2010, Geeta started living separately owing to some differences between them. She was working as a maid. An officer said the accused suspected her of being in an illicit relationship. Next, on September 29, 2012 at 9.30 am, he shot her in public and fled the scene.
The police had announced a Rs 25,000 reward on his arrest. In 2013, the cops submitted a chargesheet in court but failed to arrest him. Next, NBW was imposed on him. Kurki was also done by police in Odisha.
Circle officer Abhay Kumar Mishra said, the police increased the reward money to Rs 50,000 a few days ago. The police got information that the accused was living as a priest in his house in Odisha . “Immediately, a team was sent to Odisha but his parents tried to confuse the police. Later, he was nabbed when he was on his way to a temple,” he said.
Earlier too, the police had visited Manoj's parents but “they refused to tell us anything about him”, the officer said. During interrogation, Manoj told the police that after committing the crime, he had taken a train from Delhi to Mumbai.
Later, he went to Odisha. The accused was booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC. He has been sent to judicial custody.
