Jordan Thompson is on fire.
The volleyball player led Team USA into a second consecutive victory at the Tokyo Olympics Tuesday. Thompson scored 34 points in the United States’ 29-27, 25-22, 25-21 triumph over China, more than any other volleyball player men’s or women’s so far. Thompson tallied more than 45% of the points scored by the U.S.
China, which is currently ranked No. 3 in the world and is the reigning Olympic volleyball champion, was slated to be one of the first-ranked United States’ biggest challengers. Because of Thompson’s standout night, the U.S. cruised to victory in a shocking straight-sets victory
The 24-year-old opposite hitter was previously lauded for her performance against Argentina where she posted 18 kills with three errors, two blocks and a team-high seven digs to help the U.S. sweep a 3-0 win. Team USA coach Karch Kiraly called her “unstoppable.”
The Tokyo Olympics are the 6-foot-4 Thompson’s first. Between 2015-19, she competed for the University of Cincinnati’s volleyball team.

In its first match, China had another shocking straight-set defeat to Turkey. The United States will hope not to replicate China’s fate when they face Turkey on Thursday.
