Woman Discovers Hidden Cupboards and Fireplaces While Renovating 150-Year-Old House
A woman renovating a 19th century house has been sharing all the boarded-up treasures she's discovering, as she turns it into a home.
A mom, who calls herself Loubobang online, uploaded a clip to TikTok on Friday, as she discovered an entire cupboard hidden behind a wall.
The comedian has been sharing numerous videos to her social media pages, as she tears down plasterboard and rips up floorboards.
Her page bio confirms it features "Original Comedy. (And My Georgian House Renovation)," relating to a period in British history dating from 1714 to 1837.
The clip, watched nearly 2.5 million times, shows a man, thought to be her builder, removing a thin layer of plasterboard with a crowbar.
"What's inside?" Loubobang captioned the footage, which can be seen here, as the man chiseled away at the plaster, on top of what appears to be chicken wire.
In the background, she says: "We've just uncovered what we think is a cupboard. I'm really excited to see what's in there. The cupboard is revealed, but what's inside? And it's been nailed closed. And we're wondering why someone would do that if there was nothing in there."
She filmed a close-up of the very old nails holding the door in place, as they wedged the tool in between the gap, to pry it open.
Hopeful they'd find something, she was dismayed to see nothing inside, as she declared: "It's f****** empty." Although she did at least gain some valuable storage space.
But it's not the only original feature Loubobang has uncovered, as she found numerous fireplaces dotted around the house, which had been bricked up.
In a separate clip, uploaded on Monday, she filmed a cavity behind the wall, showing an old hearth. She captioned the footage "another hidey hole," which has been viewed more than 250,000 times.
"So we've uncovered another fireplace, which is really rather interesting. And we've also discovered another hidey hole. I dread to think what's in this one," she said.
She pans to the right, showing wooden boards peeking out from under more layers of plaster. Her builder got on the job of removing the plasterboard, revealing what looks like retro paneling, which still had remnants of what appeared to be the original wallpaper.
Loubobang called it: "Really creepy red wallpaper. What the hell is in there?"
A clip shared earlier in July, to Instagram, showed yet another fireplace being uncovered. Loubobang filmed herself on the tools this time, as she pried skirting board away from the wall, which she said was the victim of a "poor plastering job."
The clip saw her remove the wood as she joked: "Crowbarring left handed whilst filming is surprisingly difficult."
As she filmed along the now exposed wall, she said: So I've just taken the skirtings off and I've found a tiny little fireplace in here, so I'm going to expose it."
Numerous people commented on the original clip, as Loubobang said in a separate clip she was enjoying the renovation, saying; "Having fun with this one. So much history."
Remarking on the mysterious cupboard, one person said: "I watched Coraline. Leave it alone."
TiffTiff thought: "If anything is locked up, covered, sealed forever. . . it's probably for a reason."
"I'm pretty sure I've seen this movie, and now an evil spirit has escaped to torment the world," William George Magill reckoned.
Aspiring homeowner Johnathan Reed joked: "You know. . . if I ever build a house I'm going to do this. But I'm going to leave an insult on a piece of paper and put it inside."
Newsweek reached out to Loubobang for comment.
