A 16-year-old remains in critical condition Tuesday after he was shot in Over-the-Rhine Monday night, police said.

The teen was shot in the 1400 block of Walnut Street around 10 p.m., Cincinnati police said.

Investigators said he was taken to Christ Hospital in a personal vehicle and then transferred to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

On Tuesday, Cincinnati Police District 1 Commander Cpt. Matthew Hammer said the case was still under investigation and he declined to reveal any details about what led to the shooting.

Police are still seeking more information about the shooting and have asked anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers at 513-352-3040.

The teen shot Monday is the 31st juvenile to be shot in Cincinnati so far in 2021. Shootings involving juvenile victims have been elevated since 2019, but the city is on pace to have more than 50 this year. That would be more than any year since 2009.

Two other juveniles, 14 and 15, have been shot in Over-the-Rhine this year.

Hammer said police are working closely with the community to support programs targeted at youth.

"We need to work together to find better solutions," he said.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
