Thane: Four more illegal structures demolished in Majiwada-Manpada, Kalwa | Thane News

THANE: As part of its ongoing drive against unauthorised constructions in the city and suburbs, the Thane municipal corporation (TMC) on Tuesday razed a few multi-storeyed structures that had come up blatantly in the Majiwada-Manpada and Kalwa wards.
Officials said that two eight-storeyed buildings with around 14 rooms were demolished in the Bhusar and Kumbhar aali area of Kalwa while a stilt plus six-floor building in Balkum pada-1 was evacuated and around 24 rooms built over the top three floors illegally were demolished.
Meanwhile, the corporation also flattened a lodge in the Upvan area on Monday, which was being illegally used as a prostitution den, officials said.
The lodge with 20 rooms located near Upvan industrial estate was apparently constructed without permissions and was used for conducting prostitution racket.
Another popular hotel from Yeoor that was in the news for allegedly functioning beyond stipulated hours even during the lockdown was also partially demolished by the civic teams.

“The structure was illegal and we had also received complaints about its use for anti-social activities including prostitution following which we razed the structure and will analyse if MRTP act could be slapped against those involved in its construction,” said a senior official from the Vartak Nagar ward office.
Officials said the action against illegal constructions has been taken up by the administration following several complaints raised by political parties and activists in the Thane who alleged these structures were not just causing nuisance but also depriving bonafide tax payers of their rightful access to civic amenities.
Vikrant Chavan, president of Thane district Congress said the corporation has spent a notable volume of its budget on providing services to these facilities including on their demolition. The money should ideally have been recovered from those involved but the same hasn’t been done yet, straining the civic treasury.
