When Would Simone Biles Compete Next? Olympic Gymnastics Event Time and What We Know

After exiting the women's gymnastics team competition on Tuesday at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Simone Biles did not confirm whether she will rejoin the competition but told reporters she plans to "take it day by day."

If Biles is medically cleared to compete in the individual event finals, she could return to the mat as soon as Thursday.

Biles was executing an Amanar vault at the beginning of her turn in Tuesday's team finals but did not land the move as anticipated. Instead of the two and one-half twists she was expected to complete, Biles completed one and one-half twists before an off-balance landing, according to the Associated Press.

Biles withdrew from the team competition shortly thereafter but remained in the arena to support her teammates, who completed their performances in the team event.

An official statement from USA Gymnastics cited a "medical issue" as the reason for Biles' unexpected exit.

"She will be assessed daily to determine medical clearance for future competitions," the team's statement said.

Biles told The Today Show's Hoda Kotb she was "super frustrated" with how the competition went on a personal level but expressed pride in her three teammates for moving forward and concluding the competition with silver medals in the event for Team USA.

"Physically I feel good. I'm in shape," Biles told Kotb. "Emotionally, that kind of varies on the time and the moment."

Biles referenced her high profile going into the Olympics, where she has been publicized as Team USA's GOAT ("greatest of all time") athlete.

"Coming here to the Olympics and being the head star of the Olympics is not an easy feat," Biles said. "So we're just trying to take it one day at a time, and we'll see."

When Kotb asked Biles specifically if she expected to return to the next day of individual competition on Thursday, Biles was noncommittal.

"We're going to take it day by day, and we're just going to see," she said.

Women's gymnastics will resume at the Tokyo Olympics on Thursday with the individual all-around competition. Biles won the gold medal in the individual all-around during the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Following Thursday's events, three days of event finals will be held from August 1 through August 3. Biles is currently listed on USA Gymnastics' event schedule as one of the athletes expected to participate in the event finals next week.
