In the series of interviews with market leaders, change-makers, and innovators, we bring our next interview with Entrepreneur Mr. Piyush Kumar, CEO, and Founder of Rooter, India’s Biggest Gaming and eSports Community.

So let’s go through the interview.

Q. Where does India stand in the gaming industry?
Ans: we have just begun online gaming in India and have brought many international games for Indian audiences. Three major changes are coming in India for gaming success: advanced gaming phones/devices, online gaming-friendly audio devices, and fast data speed with the launch of 5G in India.
Due to advanced IT infrastructure, India has the capability to become a mobile gaming hub instead of PC console games due to the affordability of mobile devices. Not only the affordability, but you can also play mobile games anywhere including boring office meetings, parties, travel, and other places. The gaming industry will boom due to the advanced game’s availability in the future.

Q. Why there is a rise in game streaming in India?
Ans: In India, we have creators and consumers both. Look at some channels on Youtube, they upload gaming videos and are very successful. Other video apps are also taking advantage of Indian users who love to consume such videos.

Q. Does India need a minimum educational qualification for the gaming industry?
Ans: yes, after a certain interval, there will be gaming education in India. Look at South Korea. Now, they have proper gaming schools for both creators and gamers both. These schools train individuals about how to become a gamer with technical and physical exercises. In India also, such education will come up after few years.

Q. What is the scope of other types of gaming content except streaming?
Ans: Obviously, streaming is 85% of the gaming content. But, yes, another type of content like short gaming videos will be popular in the coming days. Videos of duration 30 seconds to 2 minutes will become very common in the coming years. Images may not work in the gaming industry as content. But, audio content will also be very common and Rooter is working on audio features where gamers can talk with each other while playing the games.

Q. How gaming community can be built?
Ans: Mapping is very important in gaming community building. Data analysis plays a key role in developing the gaming community. For example, an experienced gamer will enjoy playing games against a beginner. Or a Pubg player will only like a community of the same gamers or rated domain players.

Q. How technology will impact the gaming industry?
Ans: the games will be played in a community of hundreds to thousands of people. Technology will help collaboration among the gamers. The games will be more real and will be a mirror image of future events. Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality features will be very common in future games. Music and gaming will work together in different projects due to their co-relations in game development. Gaming is the future of entertainment. Social networks will be built around the gaming community.

Q. What do you say about brands and gaming industry collaboration?
Ans: if brands want more engagement, collaboration with the gaming industry is compulsory. As per the reports, most of the gamers have an age between 12 to 24 years. So, if they want to target these age group audiences, collaboration is much needed. And, it is already happening.

Q. What is the status of game development in India?
Ans. There is a huge gap between Indian gamers and game developers. If you see, we have a handful of games like FAU-G that are completely developed by India. And, we have limited startups like Nazara Technologies that are developing world-class games. It will take at least 2-4 years in developing decent games in India. It is a decade-old process to make game development infrastructure strong in India.

Q. What is the next big thing in the Indian gaming industry and what do you hope from the Indian esports industry?
Ans: Very soon, gaming will be very common in India. We will switch on our television to watch games. It will be easily available on all platforms.
For the Indian gaming industry, I wish that it should develop at a rapid pace. Currently, esports industry development is very slow in India.
In the future, esports will be a part of the Olympics. Government should invest more in the e-sports industry to become the leader in it. It is not enough to have millions of users who play online games. We should develop skills to compete with the world.
