The Beaumont City Council officially has voted to purchase the downtown AT&T Building.

Council member Mike Getz was the sole dissenting vote.

Council member Audwin Samuel made the motion to purchase the building, which was seconded by Council member Taylor Neild.

Getz began his comment on the motion accusing the council of following a different process than when Getz brought up the potential construction of a dog park at Rogers Park.

But when Getz began to pull out photos to talk about the potential relocation of the Battleship Texas to a site near the AT&T Building, City Attorney Tyrone Cooper said discussion has to pertain specifically to the motion. That motion only referred to the purchase of the AT&T Building.
