Ghaziabad: Police on Monday claimed to have solved the murder of one Rishi Chaudhary, who was shot dead at his house in Ghaziabad’s Muradnagar area on July 14. The cops arrested a man on Monday afternoon after a brief gunfight. According to the police, the arrested accused was identified as Ankit. Meanwhile, two of his associates — Monu and Guddu — managed to flee. Dr Iraj Raja, SP (rural), said that the accused had some property dispute with Chaudhary. “During questioning, Ankit said that a day before killing Chaudhary, he and some of his associates robbed a person of his bike in the Muradnagar area. They then planned to go to Chaudhary’s house and kill him,” he said. “We traced the bike number with the help of CCTV footage. While we were trying to trace the accused near Muradnagar, we saw a few people on two bikes. The cops suspected that one of the bikes was used in the murder of Chaudhary. On seeing the cops, they stopped their bikes at a distance. When the police started chasing them, they opened fire on the team. During the crossfire, one of the police bullets hit Ankit’s leg and he fell on the road along with his bike. The other two fled the spot,” the SP said. “We took him to a nearby hospital for medical attention and he is stable now. He revealed the name of another person who helped them steal the bike a night before the incident. While a team has been sent to nab this person, two others teams will try to arrest Monu and Guddu,” he said. Police recovered an illegal pistol along with live cartridges and a bike from the accused’s possession. They have been booked under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of IPC and the Arms Act.
