The Packers are set to reunite Aaron Rodgers with one of his favorite weapons.
Green Bay is working on a trade to acquire wide receiver Randall Cobb from the Houston Texans, according to NFL Network. Cobb, 30, played his first eight seasons in the NFL with the Packers, emerging as a primary target out wide.
On Monday, former ESPN host Trey Wingo reported that Rodgers’ own return to the organization after a months-long holdout was “hinging on” Green Bay bringing back Cobb. Now, on the day Rodgers reported to training camp, the Cobb trade seems imminent.
Cobb’s teammate with the Texans, Brandin Cooks, appeared to break the news with a goodbye post on Twitter.
“You meet people and they become family right away!” Cooks wrote on Twitter. “@rcobb18 go back home and set it off.”
The Packers originally selected Cobb in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. In his Green Bay career, Cobb notched 5,524 receiving yards and 41 touchdowns.
Cobb left the organization following the 2018 season, sighing a one-year deal with the Cowboys. He currently has two years remaining on a three-year, $27 million contract he signed with the Texans last April. For Houston, Cobb was made dispensable after the organization acquired wide receiver Anthony Miller from the Bears on Sunday.
