California Mandates State, Health Care Workers Show COVID Vaccine Proof or Take Weekly Tests

California is requiring that all state workers and health care employees have proof of COVID-19 vaccination or be tested weekly, the Associated Press reported.

Officials announced the rule will take effect next month. California has at least 238,000 employees, according to the controller's office. Health officials could not immediately provide an estimate on how many health care workers there are in the state.

Roughly 62 percent of all eligible Californians are fully vaccinated, though the state has struggled to make significant progress in recent weeks.
