Amid din, Rajya Sabha adjourned for third time

New Delhi, Jul 26 (UNI) Proceedings in the Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the third time till 1500 hrs on Monday amid Opposition ruckus over the Pegasus issue.

Post adjournment when the House met , the scene was no different with the Opposition continuing with sloganeering.

Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani withdrew The Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Amendment Bill, 2012 as the issues are already being addressed by new IT rules and the Home Ministry's cyber portal.

Surendra Singh Nagar, who was in the Chair, then proceeded with discussion on Marine Aids Bill.

When the Opposition continued to obstruct the functioning, the Chair adjourned the House till 1500 hrs.

Earlier, the House had witnessed two adjournments--first till 1200 hrs and the next till 1400 hrs

over the same issue.

When the members met in the morning, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu paid tributes to the fallen heroes of the Kargil war in 1999.

Mr Naidu then congratulated Mirabai Chanu for winning the silver medal on Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics, saying she ended the country's 21-year-long wait for a medal in weightlifting.

The Zero Hour began with the Chairman calling on Sushil Kumar Modi to speak which could hardly be heard as the Opposition started sloganeering against the espionage controversy.

Amid the din, Mr Naidu said he has received notices which were rejected as the issues have already been discussed.

When the Opposition continued with sloganeering, an agitated Naidu, said, "Several important matters could not be discussed. We are becoming helpless," he said and adjourned the House till 1200 hrs.

On reassembling after the adjournment, Deputy Chairman Harivansh asked the MPs to start with the Question Hour amid continuous sloganeering by the Opposition Members.

He urged the Opposition Members, who had trooped into the Well, to resume their seats, saying other than the Question Hour, nothing will go on record.

When the pandemonium continued, the Deputy Chairman again requested them to maintain decorum and allow the House to function. As the protests continued, he adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.
