Naomi Osaka vs Marketa Vondrousova
World No.2 Naomi Osaka will take on Marketa Vondorusova of the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
Naomi Osaka recorded her second straight-sets victory of the showpiece event on Monday, defeating Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland by 6-3 6-2 to move into the next round. She had earlier defeated China’s Saisai Zheng 6-1, 6-4 in the opening round.
On the other hand, Marketa Vondrousova is heading into the contest after wins over Michaela Buzarnescu and Kiki Bertens. The duo will be playing against each other for the first time in their career.
The Australian Open champion is the favourite to win Gold at the Tokyo Games as World No.1 Ash Barty crashed out in the opening round while a number of big players like Serena Williams and Simona Halep had already pulled out citing COVID-19 concerns.
Osaka, who returned to competition this week after pulling out of the French Open citing mental health issues and taking a two-month break, has been impressive while embracing her role as one of the host country’s most prominent ambassadors of the Games. Winning Olympic gold on home soil would be the icing on the cake, though Osaka said she was determined not to look too far ahead.
“Well you know, definitely it would mean a lot for me to win gold here but I know it’s a process,” said Osaka, who next plays Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic as quoted by Reuters.
“You know, these are the best players in the world and I honestly haven’t played in a while so I’m trying to keep it one match at a time. All in all, I’m just really happy to be here,” she added.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Frances Tiafoe
Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece will take on Frances Taifoe in his bid to take revenge for Wimbledon’s opening set loss.

Third-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece made his Olympics debut with a hard-fought 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 win over Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany on Sunday in the first round of play in the 2020 Tokyo Games.
Tsitsipas rallied from a breakdown in the third set to set up a second-round showdown with American Frances Tiafoe, who advanced with a 6-3, 6-2 win over South Korea’s Sunwoo Kwon.
