HYDERABAD: At least eight dogs were found with their limbs tied and being hit with sticks inside a gated community in
Ameenpur.
The incident, which took place earlier this week, came to light after a video showing a few men catching these dogs by hitting them with sticks and tying with binding wires came to the fore on Sunday.
According to the eyewitness Deepti
Chauhan, who shared the video on social media, the residents of the gated community hired a few ‘pig catchers’ to relocate the dogs . “I stay in the same community and knew that a few residents were against the stray dogs living inside the gated community. While we could have resolved that issue in a much better way, some of them hired pig catchers who hit the dogs with sticks, cornered them and tied their limbs and mouths with binding wires,” said Chauhan, who managed to rescue two dogs before they were caught.
“All these dogs which were caught were left in an isolated place near ORR. We had gone there the next day and found just one dog which was still terrified of people ,” said A Naga Raghu Ram, an animal activist, who filed a complaint against the people responsible. G Dasharath, president of the gated community said, “I was not in city when this happened and was shocked when I heard about the incident the next day. After the residents raised issues about the dogs, we contacted the GHMC to get them sterilised.” Ameenpur inspector
Srinivas Reddy said, “We have received a complaint. Investigation is underway.”
