Tokyo: The organizers of Tokyo 2020 made an interesting remark about their medals – which were made by removing precious metals from discarded cell phones and laptops – and within minutes the tweet went viral.
The organizers post a photo of an athlete smiling and biting her gold medal and writing: ‘We just want to officially confirm that the #Tokio2020 medals are not edible! Our medals are made from materials recycled from electronic devices donated by the Japanese public.
“So you do not have to bite … but we know you will still do (Face with tongue) #UnitedByEmotion,” reads the tweet.
The tweet created a huge stir on social media with fans praising the organizers for coming up with the catchy lines. ‘It’s very sweet to bite because it’s very hard to get. Also a long memory in life, “tweeted a fan, while another wrote,” The best tweet I’ve ever read since opening day. I’m sure you know today is the third day, and everyone is stressed. Your Tweet made me laugh. Thank you. “
Another fan wrote: “After struggling harder and harder, they finally bite this biscuit they need during the fight.” The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has done the “Tokyo 2020 Medal Project” to collect small electronic devices such as used cell phones from all over Japan to manufacture the Olympic and Paralympic medals.
In the two years between April 2017 and March 2019, 100 percent of the metals needed to manufacture the approximately 5,000 gold, silver and bronze medals were extracted from small electronic devices donated by people from all over Japan.
Every medal awarded to athletes during the Games is made from recycled metals.
