LUCKNOW: The number of new Covid cases continued to drop in the state even on Sunday when 43 fresh Covid patients were reported across the state. One patient from Gonda, however, succumbed to its impact.
The number of active Covid cases fell to 868 with eight districts—Aligarh, Balrampur, Basti, Etah, Fatehpur, Hathras, Mahoba and Shravasti—now Covid-free. The positivity rate in the state now stands at 0.02%.
In the past 24 hours, 2.5 lakh samples were tested. The number of first doses of Covid vaccine though went down to 5 lakh in the duration, following the shift of focus on routine immunisation of children on Saturdays.
On Saturday, UP had broken its own record of vaccinations with over 10.6 lakh first doses administered on the day.
The recovery rate in UP has consistently got better since the second wave of Covid hit in April. On April 30, there were about 3.1 lakh Covid cases with a recovery rate of 74%. Now, the recovery rate stands at 98.6%.
Additional chief secretary health Amit Mohan Prasad said that UP is the only state in the country to have conducted over 4.43 crore vaccinations.
“It is because of UP’s aggressive sample testing, micro containment zones and micro management of response teams in villages and treatment that Covid cases in UP have been under control,” he added.
