Brighton are poised to step up their £20million pursuit of Odsonne Edouard after Celtic's Champions League qualification clash with FC Midtjylland. The Parkhead club go to Denmark for Wednesday's second leg, with the tie finely poised at 1-1. Manager Ange Postecoglou has already said he won't stand in the way of unsettled players if they want to leave. And Sportsmail understands Brighton will wait until this week's Champions League tie is complete before formalising an offer, with English Premier League rivals Crystal Palace also interested.

Manchester United are preparing a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde in addition to their pursuit of Raphael Varane. United are pushing ahead with a move for Real Madrid star Varane, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also keen on a deal for Varane's French international team-mate Kounde. Solskjaer has made defensive reinforcements one of his top priorities this summer and Kounde has been on United's wanted list for some time.

Roma's pursuit of Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has reportedly hit a roadblock, with the two clubs unable to agree a fee. Xhaka has been the subject of interest from Roma throughout the transfer window but Roma are currently unwilling to match Arsenal's demands of a £17m fee, according to La Stampa. Roma have reportedly agreed personal terms with the 28-year-old but a deal for him to join Jose Mourinho's side has been put on hold for now. 

Swansea City captain Matt Grimes is closing on a move to Fulham. The pending sale of the 26-year-old midfielder was thought to be one of the contributing factors to Steve Cooper deciding to leave Swansea last week. Grimes is one of the most consistent performers in the Championship and has attracted attention from Premier League clubs such as Southampton and Newcastle United.

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly held talks with Kalidou Koulibaly's agent over a possible move for the Napoli defender. As reported by Corriere Dello Sport, Koulibaly is eager to leave Napoli and PSG believe that he is the perfect option to strengthen their defence further. There were previously suggestions that Manchester United were interested in Koulibaly, but this week the player's agent Fali Ramadani had discussions with PSG sporting director Leonardo. 

Crystal Palace are closing on a £23million deal for Lyon defender Joachim Andersen and remain in talks over Schalke's Ozan Kabak.   Palace are hopeful of signing Denmark international Andersen, 25, this week on a five year deal for £18.5m plus add-ons.  The centre-back was on loan at Fulham last season. Palace have already signed Marc Guehi from Chelsea but have lost Gary Cahill, Scott Dann and Mamadou Sakho from last year's squad. Kabak, who was on loan at Liverpool, could cost around £12m.

The 25-year-old, who notched up two assists at Euro 2020 for England and is currently on holiday , has been linked with a British-record £100million move as the Premier League champions target a major overhaul of their squad that also includes signing Harry Kane. However, Villa want to do everything possible to keep their captain and boyhood hero by offering him a bumper new contract, according to The Sun. The news could be a blow to Pep Guardiola, who is now also having to contend with the fallout from shocking revelations published exclusively by the Mail on Sunday which appear to show that the Champions League finalists inflated their income to get round Financial Fair Play rules by having millions of pounds funnelled into the club by Abu Dhabi. Grealish only signed his last contract in September 2020 to keep him at the club until the summer of 2025. According to Sportrac, he is already comfortably Villa's top earner on £120,000 a week, with Tyrone Mings and Ollie Watkins the next highest on £80,000 a week and £75,000 a week respectively.

Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Juventus according to the club's vice-president and former player Pavel Nedved, despite speculation suggesting he will leave Turin before the start of the new season. Ronaldo, who is in the final year of his contract has been linked with moves to former clubs Manchester United and Real Madrid; whilst French giants Paris-Saint-Germain are also rumoured to be interested. The 36-year-old was the top scorer in Serie A last season, scoring an impressive 29 goals and Nedved provided an update on his future after Juve beat Cesena 3-1 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.
