MUMBAI:
Maharashtra became the first state in the country to fully vaccinate over a crore people against
Covid-19. As on Monday, the state had given two doses to 1,00,99,524 people while 2.15 crore have got the first jab.
While UP has remained at the top of the chart having administered most doses among states at 4.52crore, it has managed to fully vaccinate a little over 73 lakh people. Maharashtra has administered 4.17crore doses since the national drive kicked off on January 16.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and health minister Rajesh Tope lauded the health department for achieving the feat.
Calling this a new record set by the state, Dr Pradeep Vyas, Additional Chief Secretary, health said that the
vaccination momentum would depend on the volume of doses received by the state. "After Monday's sessions, we have more than 16 lakh doses," he said.
The highest vaccinations have been in the age group above 45 years where 74.28lakh people have got both the doses while 1.01crore have got one dose. In the 18-44 age bracket, about 4.5lakh people have got vaccinated with both doses whereas 99.56lakh have got the first dose.
As far as healthcare workers are concerned, 8.97lakh have been fully vaccinated while 3.88lakh have taken a single dose. Over 11lakh frontline workers have been fully vaccinated while a little over 10 lakh have taken the first shot. Within districts, Mumbai has administered the highest doses at 69.66lakh followed by Pune that has given 59.12lakh doses.
After a few days of lull, a total of 88019 people got vaccinated in the city on Monday. The age bracket of 18-44 years is now dominating daily vaccinations followed by 45-59 years. The count of pregnant women who have taken the vaccine is inching towards 200 (181).
