Two centenarians of Tripura receives Covid vaccine

Udaipur (Tripura), Jul 26 (UNI) Two centenarians of Brakshmachhara ADC village of Udaipur under Gomati district of South Tripura have been administered Covid vaccine on Sunday at their respective houses where the young Dr Prasenjit Das, Medical Officer-In-Charge (MOIC) of Maharani Primary Health Centre took the challenge beyond the protocol and set an instance in Covid vaccination history.
According to officials, Tripura has an impressive vaccination status and close to cent per cent of the eligible population have already received their first jab by this time.
Despite sincere attempts, there has been a report of poor vaccination coverage in tribal areas due to some unknown fear; based on which the Chief Medical Officer of Gomati district took an initiative to continue vaccination drives in all the health centres in tribal areas every Sunday.
“Though initially, the response was little slow, over last few weeks it picked up with the constant persuasions of the health staff and extension workers not only in Gomati, also in other districts and distant villages of indigenous people,” officials said, adding that even the aged people have been asking to get the vaccine.
They said that MOIC of Maharani health centre Dr Das had been informed by the villagers that two centenarian ladies of Brakshmachhara ADC village were waiting to get the shot but not able to come down to the nearest health centre because of distance and non-availability of proper conveyance, as Covid pandemic haunting the people of the state largely.
As per the protocol, the fit beneficiary has to come to the designated vaccine centre to get the jab but here the state government has made some changes and declared clubs in the capital city as vaccine centres to bring more people into the vaccine coverage at the earliest. Taking this into consideration, Dr Das accompanied by his team reached the houses of the centenarian ladies.
Under his supervision, a multipurpose health worker of Brakshmachhara Sub Centre Bidhan Nag on Sunday pushed vaccine jabs to 121 years old Tara Kanya Debbarma and 101 years old Phul Jang Jamatia at their houses. Dr Das had remained there in the village till late evening of yesterday and monitored their health and left the place explaining the emergency protocol to the families about post-vaccination complications.
“I have again attended both the ladies today morning and checked their health; found them alright,” Dr Das told UNI adding that both the ladies have been living with their sons and daughters in the village and they could not recall the instance of their last hospital visit or taking any allopathic medicine on any illness. The life of the families fully depends on agriculture and natural resources available in the nearby forest area.
