Rajya Sabha adjourned till 1400 hrs amid din

New Delhi, Jul 26 (UNI) Proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 1400 hrs amid Opposition uproar over a host of issues, including Pegasus row.

As the House reassembled, Deputy chairman Harivansh asked the MPs to start with the Question Hour amid continuous sloganeering by the Opposition Members.

He urged the Opposition Members, who had trooped into the Well, to resume their seats saying other than the Question Hour, nothing will go on record.

MP Rakesh Sinha asked whether the tribals will be given community forest rights.

Another Member Harnath Singh Yadav enquired about the benefits of bio-toilets designed by the DRDO. Amid the fracas, MoS Defence Ajay Bhatt responded to the question even as the Opposition MPs continued shouting slogans.

Deputy Chairman Harivansh again requested them to maintain decorum and allow the House to function. As the protests continued he adjourned the House till 1400 hrs.

Earlier, the House was adjourned till 1200 hrs amid ruckus over the same issues.

As the House met Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu paid tributes to the fallen heroes of the Kargil war in 1999.

Mr Naidu then congratulated Mirabai Chanu for winning the silver medal on Day 1 of the Tokyo Olympics, saying she ended the country's 21-year-long wait for a medal in weightlifting.

The Zero Hour began with the Chairman calling on Sushil Kumar Modi to speak which could hardly be heard as the Opposition started sloganeering.

Amid the din, Mr Naidu said he has received notices which were rejected as the issues have already been discussed.

When the Opposition continued with sloganeering, an agitated Naidu said several important issues, including the Covid-19, unemployment, problems faced by students due to online classes, could not be raised due to disruptions.

"We are becoming helpless," he said and adjourned the House till 1200 hrs.

Last week also, the House had witnessed frequent disruptions and adjournments over several issues ranging from Pegasus row to farmers' stir.
