Dhindsa opposes the Electricity Amendment Bill

Chandigarh, Jul 26 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) has expressed oppositi to the

Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 which is to be introduced in Parliament in the next few days.

In a statement issued here on Moday, Party President and Rajya Sabha member, S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa while opposing the proposed bill has slammed the central government for planning to introduce such a bill to privatize the power sector.

S. Dhindsa said that with the implementation of this bill, increasing privatization in the power sector would affect the subsidies. "This is another financial robbery of the central government on the farmers and the poor people" he said.

He added that the farmers of the country have been struggling on the borders of Delhi for the last year to demand repeal of black laws.

"With the implementation of this Bill, all subsidies on electricity will be discontinued. Besides this, after this Bill, Power will no longer be a matter of the states", claimed S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

He said that the government will hand over the power sector to the corporate houses like the telecom sector, hence ending the legitimate right of States to take any decision regarding the Power sector, which is a blatant violation of the federal structure, added Sh. Dhindsa.

S. Dhindsa said that under a conspiracy by the Union Government, the power sector is being made more expensive and corporate houses were being benefited.

He said that the Union government is trying to harass the farmers who are demanding the repeal of the three farming laws for a long time.

S. Dhindsa said that his party strongly opposes these "black laws" as well as the Electricity Amendment Bill.
