Australia-based computer vision startup Visionary Machines has also appointed Amir Mashkoori to the role of chief executive officer.

Visionary Machines says it uses camera arrays to allow machines to see, navigate, measure distance and perceive objects more effectively so they can intelligently interact with the world.

New CEO Amir Mashkoori will be based in Silicon Valley.

He joins the company from ISDA, where he most recently worked as Silicon Valley co-founder and global ambassador.

Mashkoori previously worked as CEO of Kovia, and spent eight years at AMD, most recently as executive vice president and general manager of the wireless business unit.

He is also a strategic advisor to VivaLNK, and a foundation board member at Dignity Health.

Mashkoori holds a bachelor's degree in business finance and an MBA, both from San Jose State University.

"I'm honoured to be stepping into the role as chief executive at Visionary Machines," said Amir Mashkoori. "With the backing and validation of our strong investor syndicate, we're focused on building out our world-class team to execute on our vision for safer and smarter autonomous navigation."

The company recently received $7.5 million in seed round funding from Folklore Ventures, Our Innovation Fund, Significant Capital Ventures, Thorney Investment Group and IQT International Australia.

The money will be used to accelerate the development of the Visionary Machines' technology.

Folklore Ventures partner Hannah Field, who will join the company's board of directors, said "From day one, we've been blown away by the talent and expertise of the founders and their development of a ground-breaking technology that will advance the reliability and fidelity of 3D ranging. With the market poised for rapid growth, Visionary Machines is uniquely positioned to transform autonomous mobility and safety, and become a global leader in spatial sensing."
