"Recognise FPS agents as frontline warriors"

Bishnupur, July 25 2021: Bishnupur assembly constituency Fair Price Shop Agents' nominee Kangabam Phajaton Devi has observed that government's order to FPS agents to home deliver PDS items to beneficiaries during the period of curfew can be successfully implemented if they are recognised and given the same facilities provided to frontline warriors.

Speaking while handing over monetary assistance polled by 50 FPS agents of Bishnupur AC to the family members of Bishnupur Municipal Council Ward No 5 FPS agent Huidrom Joy-chandra Singh, who passed away due to Covid-19 on July 22, Phajaton also proposed that the government provide compensation to the Joychandra's family as he got infected with Covid-19 while distributing PDS rice.

An agent gets commission of only 65 paisa per kg of rice but release of the said amount by government takes over two years.

Hence, the government should release the due funds on time, she urged.

Phajaton also mentioned that it would be better if the government suspends biometric fingerprinting and replaces it with offline option, as it may spread Covid-19.The government must also allow continuation of home delivering of PDS rice to households under containment zones by FPS agents, she added after handing over the assistance on Sunday.
