Jul. 24—A burglar stole $1,000 worth of beverages and clams from Dalton Fire Company's outdoor, walk-in cooler at the carnival grounds on West Main Street, company President Justin Sturdevant said.

The incident occurred Sunday, July 18 between 4 and 5 a.m., he said.

Fifty cases of beverages, which included beer and hard seltzer, and two bushels of clams were stored in the cooler under an open-sided pole building, he said.

The beverages and clams were unsold leftovers from the fire company's carnival that ran July 14-17, he said. The carnival was supposed to continue July 18, but storms the prior night cut the carnival short by a day, he said.

A burglar broke the lock on the cooler to gain access, he said. The department posted a message about the theft on Facebook on Friday and the incident remains under investigation by borough police, Sturdevant said.
