Indian boxer Manish Kaushik was defeated by Britain’s Luke McCormack by a split decision 4-1 in the preliminary round of men’s lightweight category at the Tokyo Olympics on Sunday.

While Luke took the lead in the first round with only two judges favouring Manish and three favouring the British, three judges favoured Kaushik in the second round making the scores even. In the third and deciding round of the bout, all the judges favoured Luke, declaring him as the winner.
Manish Kaushik is the second Indian boxer to be knocked out in the preliminary round after Vikas Krishan, who was defeated 5-0 by Japan’s Quincy Okazawa in the preliminary round of Welterweight category in Men’s boxing at the Tokyo Olympics on Saturday.
Earlier, Mary Kom defeated Garcia Hernandez to enter the second round in women’s 51kg category.
