Will arrest LIP MLA Simarjit Singh Bains once we’ve enough proof: Ludhiana top cop

LUDHIANA: Even though Lok Insaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has failed to get any relief from the Punjab & Haryana high court in the rape case registered against him, the Ludhiana top cop has said that the police would arrest Bains after collecting sufficient evidence against him. On the other hand, advocate Harish Rai Dhanda, who has taken up the case in the court on behalf of the complainant, claimed that they have submitted all evidence, but the police are deliberately delaying the action.
Police commissioner Rakesh Agarwal said the police are investigating the case, though an FIR has been lodged on the orders of the court.
When asked if any special treatment is being given to Bains, Agarwal said, “The police are not giving any special treatment to Bains. The statements are being recorded and evidence are being collected. The police will arrest Bains after collecting evidence against him.” When asked if the police arrested the rape accused immediately without waiting to collect evidences in other rape cases, then what makes this case special, Agarwal said, “In all cases, the police first collect evidence and then arrest the accused.”
Advocate Harish Rai Dhanda said, “ First the police took eight months to investigate the case and lodged an FIR on the orders of the court. Aren’t eight months enough to collect evidence?” He alleged, “The complainant has submitted all the evidence with the police, but they are doing nothing to further probe it. Moreover, the Ludhiana police have given enough time to Bains to destroy the evidence. The police have not collected the main evidence related to the case so far, like the mobile phone of the accused, CCTV recording of his office etc. The police are openly helping the MLA.”
