CHENNAI: Seven zones in the city have less than 100 active Covid-19 cases, official statistics released by
Greater Chennai Corporation on Saturday show.
Four of the zones were in North Chennai. The data, with figures as on July 23, showed Tiruvottiyur had 64 active cases, Manali 39, Madhavaram 91 and Tondiarpet 86. In south Chennai region, Alandur had 60 active cases while
Perungudi had 73 and Shollinganallur 47.
The zone with highest active cases in the city is Adyar (187), in south Chennai.
Densely populated
Central Chennai, which has always had most active cases in the city, does not have a single zone with less than 100 active cases.
Active cases in the city are 0.3% of the total infections recorded in the city so far.
The city corporation also released data on zone-wise case fatality rate and recoveries on its social media pages after a gap of a few days.
GCC had stopped publishing these statistics around 10 days ago and had started giving details on zone-wise number of fresh cases recorded everyday. This was after TOI had reported on a statistical inaccuracy in the number of fresh cases recorded by the GCC and the state health bulletin.
According to the data, Chennai's Covid-19 case fatality rate (CFR) has stabilised at 1.55%. Thiru-vi-ka Nagar continues to be the zone with the highest
CFR (2.01%), while Anna Nagar has recorded the highest number of fatalities (962). The lowest CFR in the city is in Shollinganallur (0.84%), while Manali has the lowest recorded fatalities at 77.
July 23 was also a good day as far as vaccinations were concerned as GCC administered jabs to 32,759 people. According to CoWIN dashboard statistics, totally 37,070 were vaccinated in Chennai on Friday with almost an equal number of first and second doses being administered.
