JORHAT, July 24: The poultry farm at Baghchung block here which was revived recently under the initiative of deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Batman has produced the first batch of more than 400 hatchlings of ducks and chickens.
A Jorhat district administration official said that over 400 chicks and ducklings were hatched in the first batch after the farm was revived with the machinery and equipment made functional by the farm authorities and the veterinary department officials.
Barman soon after assuming charge as the deputy commissioner in May this year had inspected the farm and directed the veterinary department and farm authorities to initiate steps to revive the farm with an aim to provide self-employment activities to local entrepreneurs.
The official said that the deputy commissioner had plans to organise training programme
Barman had recently visited the farm to inspect how well it had become functional, the process of which started a month ago, the official stated.
Jorhat additional deputy commissioner Damodar Barman, election officer Dinsengfa Boruah, district veterinary officer Dr Bhupen Das and Farm manager Dr Sarwar Sader accompanied the deputy commissioner, the official said.
