TPS Randhawa, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh, has committed the case of alleged robbery at the Sector 27-D market to the Sessions Court for trial.
As per prosecution, the alleged robbery incident took place at a Western Union branch in Sector 27-D, Chandigarh, on July 27, 2020.
In a complaint submitted to the police, Sanjeev Kalia said two persons entered his booth around 2.10 pm. While one of them was holding a saw (aari) in his hand, the other one was carrying a pistol. The duo threatened him to hand over money to them. They picked up the keys from the counter and kept Rs3 lakh in a laptop bag before fleeing from the spot.
Kalia raised an alarm, but the robbers fled the spot. The victim claimed that he could identify both persons, if they were produced before him.
On the basis of his statement, the police registered an FIR and initiated investigations.
During the investigation, one of the suspects, Inderjeet Singh of Budanpur village, Panchkula district, was arrested on January 29 this year.
On the basis of the disclosure statement, the saw used in the crime was recovered. A challan was presented after the completion of investigation. The police registered a case against the accused under Sections 397, 392 and 34 of the IPC.
The trial court in its order said: “Since the offence punishable under Section 397 IPC is, exclusively, triable by the Court of Sessions therefore, this case is committed to the Court of Sessions and the accused be produced before the Sessions Judge, Chandigarh on August 3, 2021”.
