The India Meteorological Department predicted 'heavy rains at isolated places' in Mumbai and Palghar. However, 'heavy to very heavy rains' at isolated places have been predicted for Thane city. In the last two days, heavy rains battered different parts of Maharashtra leading to flood-like situations and landslides that claimed at least 129 lives. Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray announced ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the kin of those who lost their lives in the landslides caused by torrential rainfall in various parts of the state. According to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the state will also incur the costs of treatment for those injured. Meanwhile, there was no supply of Gokul pouch milk to Mumbai on Saturday due to flooding in Kolhapur, Sangli and other districts of Maharashtra, Kolhapur Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh, which owns the milk brand Gokul, said on Friday. Pune-Bengaluru highway in Kolhapur likely to be opened for emergency heavy vehicles
The Pune-Bengaluru national highway stretch in Kolhapur, which has remained shut for the last two days due to the flooding caused by heavy rains, may be opened by Sunday afternoon only for heavy vehicles carrying emergency supplies like food, milk, petrol and diesel, among others, as the water level on this stretch has reduced owing to subdued rain.
