Vadodara: An elderly man identified as Pramod has been booked by the Narmada police for attempting to visit the Statue of Unity (SoU) by posing as a Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) representative. A scribe from Vadodara too has been named in the FIR as he was accompanying Pramod along with three others. According to the police, the incident occurred on July 17 when Pramod contacted SoU officials and introduced himself as a member of PMO’s advisory committee. He wanted to visit SoU with four other persons including Hemant Vyas, a journalist working with a leading Gujarati daily. The SoU officials told him that they didn’t get any intimation from the PMO about the visit. So, Pramod and other four then purchased the SoU tickets online and toured the spot. “The district collectorate inquired in the PMO if it had any committee member by the name of Pramod. The inquiry revealed that the said person didn’t hold any post in the PMO. We were then informed about the incident following which we filed FIR against the scribe and Pramod for impersonating as a government representative,” said P T Chaudhary, police inspector, Kevadia. The cops have already picked up Pramod from Delhi and the scribe too is being questioned.
