Ghaziabad: A sub-inspector and a head constable have been
suspended for not taking action on a
robbery complaint in Masuri. An FIR was lodged after the complainant walked into the SSP’s office on Thursday and demanded that her complaint be registered. DIG and SSP Amit Pathak took the complainant to the concerned
police station and ensured that the complaint was registered, and suspended Icha Ram and Satendra Singh, the SI of Garden Enclave police chowki and head constable respectively. Additionally, six police personnel were sent to the police line.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon when Masuri resident Pravesh Gahlot (19), a college student, was returning home after meeting her friend. Two bike-borne men stopped behind her and snatched her phone.
Gahlot said, “I called the police helpline number immediately and was told to file a complaint. When I went to the Garden Enclave police chowki, I got to know that the sub-inspector was on leave. The incharge Icha Ram asked me to submit a complaint online. But when I couldn’t do that, I went to the chowki again on Wednesday but Ram misbehaved with me. I then went to the Masuri police station but the SHO was on patrolling duty.”
Then I had finally decided to meet the SSP on Thursday. “He took me to Masuri police station and asked the SHO to register my complaint,” Gahlot said.
Pathak told TOI, “This kind of negligence is not acceptable. If cops are not friendly then victims will hesitate to ask for help. A departmental enquiry is already initiated against them. Further action will be taken against them after an enquiry.”
Meanwhile, six head constables and 15 constables from different police stations of the district were sent to police lines for “inappropriate” behavior. Maximum four constables from Kaushambi police station were sent to the police line and three constables each from Bhojpur, Indirapuram, Nandgram.
