North will win, and win well

Any glimmer of hope Carlton might have derived from back-to-back goals from Cripps and Kennedy has been snuffed out by a beautiful goal from Thomas from the goal square after taking a strong mark against Saad.

The Kangaroos lead by 31 points with 6:30 to go, 15.6.96 to 9.11.65, and Thomas joins Stephenson on three goals while Larkey has six.

Suns gunning big upset

Is a boilover on the cards up at the Gabba? Gold Coast are up by 23 points against Brisbane at the halfway point of the second term, 7.5.47 to 3.6.24.

Miller is having another monster game with 14 disposals (six contested), four clearances, four score involvements and three tackles.

Half a dozen for Larkey

Larkey now has a career-high six goals to his name as the Kangaroos continue to put the foot down, leading the Blues by 32 points nearing the halfway mark of the final quarter, 14.6.90 to 8.10.58.

North blitz leaves Blues in all sorts

What a third quarter from the Kangaroos! They registered their highest-scoring quarter for the season, piling on 7.2 to Carlton’s woeful 0.4.

The Blues are showing no urgency and no care, and just cannot cope with the intense pressure that North are subjecting them to.

The bottom team are on the verge of ending Carlton’s finals hopes, and it could be a long way back from here for Blues coach David Teague.

Incredibly, Carlton are still leading the inside 50s 39-35, but are being battered in the efficiency department with North registering more scores (18-15) and more than doubling them for goals (12-5).

The Blues are missing Harry McKay desperately.

The Kangas are also dominating the disposals 301-257, clearances 30-20 and hitouts 34-14 while they also lead the contested possessions 89-88.

Back-breaker for Teague?

Some of observations of North Melbourne’s sensational performance...

Carlton put up the white flag

The Kangaroos’ pressure has been brilliant. They’ve now kicked six goals in a row to open up a commanding 34-point lead with 6:04 to go in the third quarter, 11.6.72 to 5.8.38.

Larkey has five majors now and the Blues have been reduced to a bunch of bystanders. They’re being taught a lesson by the bottom-placed Kangaroos.

Four North goals in a row

North Melbourne are pounding the Blues in the clearances 26-16, including 7-3 this quarter, and have taken control of this contest.

Larkey has booted another two in a row, to take his tally to a game-high four majors, and the Kangaroos now lead by 20 points nearing the halfway mark of the third quarter, 9.4.58 to 5.8.38.

North have been ultra efficient since half-time, kicking 4.0 from just five inside 50s. They’re spreading much better than Carlton from the contest and the Blues look to be out of answers at the moment.

David Noble’s team have also kicked six of the last seven majors.
