YAMUNANAGAR: A constable posted with Haryana Armed Police (HAP) allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in police line at
Jagadhri town of Yamunanagar district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh Sinhmar (26) of Safidon town of Jind district.
The family of Rajesh alleged that he was being harassed by his duty in-charge and suffered depression, due to which, he committed suicide.
On the complaint of Rajesh's brother Rakesh Sinhmar of Safidon, Jind, a case has been registered against unidentified duty in-charge under Section 306 (abetment of suicide) at Jagadhri City police station on July 24.
Yamunanagar superintendent of police (SP) Kamaldeep Goyal also inspected the spot at
police lines on Friday where Rajesh committed suicide.
In his complaint to the police, Rakesh said that his brother Rajesh Sinhmar had passed MSc Physics and he had joined the Haryana Police as constable in 2019.
"Rajesh got posted in 5th Battalion of Haryana Armed Police (HAP) in Madhuban of Karnal. For the last about two months, he was posted in the police line, Ambala, and was sent to Yamunanagar district for duty a few days ago. On July 23, I got information from the Yamunanagar police line that my brother Rajesh has committed suicide by hanging himself at the police line in Jagadhri. My brother had been suffering from depression for the four-five months and he was getting treatment of depression from a private hospital in Panipat", said Rakesh to the police.
“Duty in-charge of my brother in Ambala used to harass him, as he was highly qualified. My brother was on leave due to his illness up to July 20, 2021, and then he joined the office. Rajesh wanted to extend his leaves as he was getting treatment for depression. But, his senior refused to extend his leave. Rajesh was upset due to not getting the sick leave due to which, he committed suicide in depression. Strict action should be taken against his duty in-charge for forcing his brother to commit suicide", further said Rakesh.
SP Kamaldeep on Friday said, "A jawan of HAP battalion Rajesh committed suicide by hanging and we have informed his family. The reason behind him taking the extreme step will be investigated. We have recovered some medical papers and some tablets which will be examined."
Jagadhri City police station house officer (SHO) inspector Suresh Kumar on Saturday said, "The postmortem of deceased Rajesh has been conducted at the civil hospital, Jagadhri on Saturday, and the dead body was handed over to his family members."
"We have registered a case on the complaint of the family member and the investigation is being done", added inspector Suresh.
