BENGALURU: After missing multiple deadlines, the Mysuru Road-Kengeri Metro corridor is likely to be delayed again.
The commissioner of Metro rail safety’s scheduled inspection on July 23-24 has been postponed, officials said, and BMRCL is yet to get the revised date. This means the corridor is unlikely to be inaugurated on August 15.
The 7.3km section which was supposed to be completed by December 2018 missed several deadlines — March 2019, November 2019, October 2020, February 2021, April 2021, June 2021 and July 2021.
“CMRS is expected to give a report in a week or two after the inspection. We can commence commercial operations after that. At the same time, some civil work at Kengeri is pending and we should complete it by this month-end,” said a BMRCL official.
The south-western extension of Namma Metro’s Purple Line is expected to benefit 75,000 passengers every day. The elevated Kengeri section will have seven stations — Nayandahalli, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Jnanabharathi, Pattanagere, Kengeri bus terminal, Kengeri and Challaghatta.
