Maharashtra
Government has rolled out a revised Electric Vehicle (EV) policy for a cleaner
environment and aims at 10% of newly registered vehicles in its major cities to
be electric ones by 2025.
The state government also targets to have around 1,500 charging stations in Mumbai itself by 2025 along with converting 15% of MSRTC buses to electric. It will give demand and supply side incentives to generate demand and incentivize production of EVs and targets to set up 1 giga watt battery manufacturing plant in Maharashtra. Incentives will also be given for setting up advanced chemistry cell battery manufacturing plants.
According to Nagesh
Basavanhalli, MD & Group CEO, Greaves Cotton, and Director, Ampere Vehicles,
the EV policy will be a great enabler of clean and green mobility and will not
only boost the growth of electric vehicles but will also provide employment at
various levels and give impetus to the setting up of charging infrastructure.
He added that there would be Greaves Retail outlets and Ampere Showroom
dealerships across the state.
Nakul Kukar, Founder and
CEO, Cell Propulsion, said that, they appreciate Maharashtra Government for
announcing multiple measures to encourage electric vehicle adoption and the
revised policy’s focal point of bringing ease to consumers and manufacturers.
With more than 80% of
freight being moved by CVs in India, their large-scale electrification with
specific emphasis from the government will help reduce the country’s diesel
imports to an extent, and also bring relief from the increasing prices for the
masses.
He also said that, there
is a strong emphasis on establishing a robust charging infrastructure in the
state, which is much needed to reduce range anxiety and increase EV penetration
in the state.
Uday Narang, Chairman, OSM
(Omega Seiki Mobility) has stated that, he would like to congratulate and thank the
Government of Maharashtra for announcing an ambitious electric vehicle policy.
This radical step taken by the Maharashtra Govt. to subsidize electric vehicles
will provide the much-required stimulus.
The Rs 9.3 billion policy
aims to get nearly 3 lakhs new EVs on the road every year by 2025. The new
policy will also help create an estimated 1 lakh new jobs. Besides, the support
for setting up a charging infrastructure, in urban areas and highways, will
lead to faster adoption of electric vehicles.
OSM will be launching its
flagship store in Pune later this month and Maharashtra being one of the
primary markets for OSM, the company promises to introduce more products and
dealerships in the state soon.
Maharashtra has announced extensive incentivization for setting up charging stations. The various incentives will include giving incentive of Rs 5000 per kWh of battery and the maximum incentive for electric two wheelers are Rs 10,000 and Rs 30,000 for electric three wheelers. Also, all electric vehicles will be exempted from road tax and registration charges. Additionally, Maharashtra has also rolled out scrapping incentives.
