Recently OPPO, launched the Oppo Reno 6 and Reno 6 Pro in India, The Reno 6 Series comes with MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset and MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset respectively.– The Oppo Reno 6 is one of the first smartphones in India to use the MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset, which is built using the latest power-efficient 6nm production process, making it exceptionally light on power and extends battery life even for demanding users. Dimensity 900 supports Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, ultra-fast FHD+ 120Hz displays, and up to 108MP main camera.
Video consumption and creation have seen a significant rise in the last few years. The OPPO Reno series currently serves more than 70 million users across the world each month, who on average, capture over 2 billion photos and over 200 million memories through video. In line with OPPO’s legacy of mastering innovation through introducing industry-first features, the Reno6 series leverages leading AI algorithms to provide an unprecedented video experience with an industry first Bokeh Flare Portrait Video, The company calls it “a studio in your pocket!”
In a tell-all conversation with Siddharth Shankar from BWBusinessworld, Tasleem Arif, Vice President India R&D, OPPO India, and Kuldeep Malik - Director, Corporate Sales, MediaTek India talk about their longstanding partnership and the New Reno 6, Dimensity 900, 5G plans.

We saw MediaTek Dimensity 1000 with the Reno 5 offering balance between power and efficiency, what should the buyers expect from the Reno 6 and Dimensity 900 in terms of the power of the soc and battery and thermal management?

Our partnership with MediaTek has birthed two amazing devices this time which are performance beasts. Both the OPPO Reno6 Pro and OPPO Reno6 will be powered by MediaTek flagship chipsets - Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 900 respectively. In fact, the OPPO Reno6 is the first device in India to be powered by Dimensity 900 chipset It is poised to guarantee an enhanced experience to its users. The chipset brings the latest Arm Cortex-A78 CPU cores to high-end 5G smartphones. With their amazing performance, users can get a snappier App response, faster FPS in games, and overall a better-connected experience. It also empowers the device with an amazing AI camera experience.
The OPPO Reno6 is also backed by the MediaTek MiraVision HDR Video, which is an exclusive display and video playback technology suite that intelligently adjusts a wide range of video stream factors, including color, brightness, contrast, sharpness, and dynamic range.
Not only this, using the latest TSMC 6nm production process – the Dimensity 900 enables the OPPO Reno6 to be exceptionally light on power, extending battery life even for demanding users. The OPPO Reno6 5G offers a 4300 mAh battery to keep you on the go, addressing one of the biggest concerns for smartphone users in India. In addition, the phone can be charged to 100% in about 28 minutes, using the OPPO 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 charger and just 5 minutes of charging will give you enough battery for 4 hours of video playback.

MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G chip is designed to deliver superior gaming experiences to users. Featuring a range of upgrades and gaming-specific advancements, the innovative 5G chip brings the latest Arm Cortex-A78 CPU cores to high-end 5G smartphones like the OPPO Reno6. With frequencies up to 2.4GHz, these CPUs deliver exceptional performance for snappier App response, faster FPS in games, and better-connected experiences. Further, the Arm Mali-G68 GPU features all the technologies of the bigger G78, but with a design optimized for power efficiency, extending battery life even further for mobile gamers.
MediaTek Dimensity 900 is powered by our latest MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 game technology, and the third generation of call and data concurrency allows gamers to keep a 5G data connection open and uninterrupted for their game, while simultaneously making or accepting a VoLTE call on the second SIM. With inbuilt 5G HSR or “high-speed rail” mode for gaming, the smartphone will search and connect to the lowest latency available cell tower to minimize online ping. This is particularly advantageous when traveling fast, as the relative distance – and thus latency – to each tower changes rapidly.
MediaTek HyperEngine 3.0 game technology also offers 5G tethering to other devices without impacting their own gaming performance. Gamers can now spend more time honing their skills as the networking engine integrates the 5G modem and Wi-Fi into the single chip, allowing the components to work closer together for better power efficiency, resulting in up to 33% power savings compared to alternative platforms.
In terms of camera, we have seen Oppo innovate a lot, for example, the FDF system, now with the New MTK Dimensity 900, what will the Reno 6 be offering in terms of camera performance.

The Reno particularly is known for its rich and long legacy of mastering innovation with industry-first features, especially for camera technology. This time the collaboration has created the videography wonder. Powered by the Dimensity 900 chipset, the OPPO Reno6 empowers photo bugs and filmmakers with an exceptional 4K video recording engine and advanced noise reduction. Coupled with the 108mp camera on the OPPO Reno6 yields detailed pictures and good shots even in low light conditions.
In addition, the device comes equipped with an industry-first Bokeh flare portrait video feature. It is the first smartphone to include an industry-first cinematic bokeh effect for recording video on a smartphone. The bokeh effect makes people appear more vivid both at night and during the day. Using OPPO’s AI algorithms Bokeh Flare Portrait Video pinpoint real light sources in the background and create bokeh light spots with blurred depth-of-field portrait video effect, imitating professional cameras.

Our India R&D team has worked relentlessly on validating Reno6 Series 5G devices as per the operator needs including performing interoperability and compliance tests.
For the next few years, 5G will remain a key focus at OPPO India both from an R&D and product perspective. With multiple 5G product launches lined up for the year we strive at popularising the technology making it accessible to all.
How has the partnership been like between OPPO and MediaTek, and how do you see it evolving from here?

MediaTek and OPPO have been associated for several years, and we share a close relationship built on trust and confidence. We have had a very long and fulfilling journey with OPPO, across geographies and we are extremely pleased to further this association with the launch of the OPPO Reno6 as the first smartphone in India to feature the MediaTek Dimensity 900 processor. OPPO was the first OEM to launch a smartphone powered by MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ processor with the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G. Even before our collaborations on the Dimensity series chipsets, MediaTek and OPPO have associated on launching several innovative smartphones featuring chips from our MediaTek Helio P series, and we are pleased to strengthen our relationship with the new launch. OPPO’s partnership with MTK is a long-standing one and it is built on trust and confidence. For years, OPPO has been one of MediaTek’s most important partners and together we have been exploring a journey that is innovative yet exciting.
The partnership has yielded many smartphones powered by some of MediaTek’s India's first innovative chipsets. For example, both OPPO Reno3 Pro powered by MediaTek Helio P95 and OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ SoC were the first smartphones in India to be powered by respective chipsets. Even the recently launched OPPO F19 Pro+ was equipped with MediaTek 5G Dimensity 800U chipset. And now the OPPO Reno6 5G is not only India first, but even globally it is the first device to come with Dimensity 900 chipset.
In between, we also launched various other devices such as the OPPO A53s powered by MediaTek Dimensity 700. So yes, both brands do share a strong relationship and together we are constantly innovating to build devices that capture the user’s attention across both 4G and 5G market segments.
This partnership has also been widely loved and accepted by users. Talking about this year itself, the OPPO Reno5 Pro 5G witnessed over 100% growth in the first quarter of its sales, mirroring the love for the device. It helped provide the flagship experience with increased processing speed and lower power consumption. Now with Reno6 Series devices, we are aiming to repeat the history. As I mentioned earlier, this partnership has brought us many milestones and we will continue rewriting history together.
